Types of Cyclone Warnings
- Cyclone Watch: Issued when cyclone conditions are possible within 48 hours but not yet certain.
- Cyclone Warning: Issued when cyclone impacts are expected within 24 hours for coastal or island communities.

Warning Regions
Australia's tropical cyclone warning regions include Queensland, Northern Territory, and Western Australia's northern coastlines. Cyclones are monitored by three Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres (TCWCs) located in Brisbane, Darwin, and Perth.
Cyclone Categories
Tropical cyclones are classified into five categories based on maximum sustained wind speeds:
- Category 1: Gales (63-88 km/h winds) - Minimal damage to property
- Category 2: Destructive winds (89-117 km/h) - Minor house damage, significant damage to trees
- Category 3: Very destructive winds (118-165 km/h) - Roof and structural damage, power failures
- Category 4: Very destructive winds (166-224 km/h) - Significant structural damage, dangerous airborne debris
- Category 5: Extremely destructive winds (>225 km/h) - Extremely dangerous with widespread destruction
