The summer season in South East Queensland is characterised by significant rainfall and high humidity. Most of the annual precipitation occurs during these months, often delivered through afternoon thunderstorms. These systems frequently develop over the ranges to the west and move towards the coastline. In contrast, winter in Brisbane is typically dry and mild. Clear skies and low humidity are common during this period, though overnight temperatures can drop significantly when south-westerly winds prevail.

While direct hits from tropical cyclones are less frequent than in Far North Queensland, the remnants of these systems can bring heavy rainfall and flooding to the Brisbane River catchment. Severe thunderstorms are a primary concern from October through to March, often accompanied by damaging winds and large hail. During the transition into the warmer months, the region also monitors bushfire risks, particularly when dry westerly winds increase the fire danger across the hinterland and suburban fringes.
