Tropical Climate Patterns

Beach Holm is situated in the dry tropics of North Queensland, positioned north of the Burdekin region. Unlike the wet tropics further north towards Cairns, this area typically sees lower annual rainfall but remains subject to the heavy monsoonal influences of the summer months. The weather is characterised by warm to hot temperatures year-round, with high humidity levels common from December through to March. During the winter months, the region enjoys mild days and cool nights, often accompanied by clear skies and light coastal breezes.

Seasonal Hazards and Coastal Conditions

Being a coastal locality within the latitude band prone to tropical activity, Beach Holm is included in the Australian cyclone season which runs from November to April. During this period, residents must monitor for tropical lows and developed systems that can bring damaging winds and significant storm surges to the Halifax Bay area. Heavy rainfall during these months can also lead to localised flooding in low-lying coastal plains.

The prevailing winds often come from the south-east, particularly during the cooler months when high-pressure systems move across southern Australia. In summer, the sea breeze provides some relief from the tropical heat, though it can also lead to choppy conditions for those heading out onto the water. Fire weather is a consideration during the late dry season when vegetation becomes dormant and gusty winds increase the risk of bushfires in the surrounding scrubland and grassy plains inland from the coast.
