The monsoon season, typically spanning from December to April, brings the highest risk of severe weather to the region. During this period, the range is susceptible to tropical cyclones and deep low-pressure systems that can dump immense volumes of water over a short duration. The steep terrain makes the area prone to rapid runoff and localised flooding. While the winter months are generally more stable, the high latitude and coastal proximity ensure that moisture levels remain elevated throughout the year.

Temperatures on the Bellenden Ker Range are notably cooler than the adjacent coastal plains due to the lapse rate associated with its altitude. Humidity remains high year-round, which can influence perceived temperatures and contribute to the dense rainforest growth characteristic of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
