Its geography is characterised by gently undulating terrain within the Brisbane River catchment. Because it sits inland from the Moreton Bay coastline, Darra often experiences slightly higher daytime temperatures during the summer months compared to the bayside suburbs, as the cooling influence of the afternoon sea breeze takes longer to reach this far west.
