The climate here is generally temperate, though the inland position results in a broader temperature range than seen on the coast. During the summer months, the region often experiences warm days followed by cooler evenings, with moisture frequently drawn from the north-east leading to afternoon thunderstorms.

Seasonal Variations

Winter in this part of New South Wales is characterised by crisp, clear days and cold nights. Frost is a common occurrence across the tablelands during the cooler months, as high-pressure systems settle over the interior. Unlike the humid subtropical zones further north, the air here remains relatively dry during winter, though occasional cold fronts moving up from the Southern Ocean can bring significant temperature drops and blustery conditions.

As with much of inland New South Wales, the threat of bushfires remains a critical concern during dry spells, especially when hot north-westerly winds increase. Conversely, the region can also be affected by the tail end of East Coast Lows, which, while primarily coastal events, can sometimes push significant cloud cover and steady rain across the Great Dividing Range to the eastern slopes.
