The dry vegetation and high temperatures create conditions where bushfires can develop and spread rapidly. Additionally, Noongar can occasionally experience the remnants of tropical cyclones. While these systems lose their cyclonic intensity as they travel south and inland, they can bring significant unseasonal rainfall and localized flooding to the Wheatbelt, disrupting transport routes like the Great Eastern Highway.
