Oxley Island is positioned in a humid subtropical climate zone, characteristic of the New South Wales northern coastline. Its geography as an island within the Manning River estuary means that temperature extremes are often moderated by the surrounding water bodies. During the summer months, sea breezes provide relief from the heat that builds up in the hinterland, while winter nights remain slightly milder than those in more inland parts of the Manning Valley.

Rainfall on Oxley Island is generally well-distributed throughout the year, though a noticeable peak often occurs in the late summer and autumn months. This is frequently driven by moist easterly airflows and the occasional influence of Tasman Sea low-pressure systems. In winter and spring, the region typically sees clearer skies as westerly winds prevail, though these can occasionally bring drier, gusty conditions across the coastal plains.

Like much of the New South Wales coast, Oxley Island is susceptible to East Coast Lows. These intense low-pressure systems can bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and significant river rises within the Manning catchment. During the warmer months, the region must also monitor for severe thunderstorms that develop over the Great Dividing Range and move towards the coast. While the maritime location offers some protection from the most extreme heatwaves, high humidity remains a consistent feature of the summer season.
