Springside is located within the Darling Downs region of South East Queensland. This area is characterised by a humid subtropical climate, though its inland position and elevation provide more distinct seasonal variations than coastal Queensland. Residents typically experience warm to hot summers and noticeably cool winters, where overnight frost is a common occurrence during the clearer months of June, July and August.

Seasonal Weather Patterns

During the summer months, the region is influenced by moist air masses from the north and east. This often results in increased humidity and instability, leading to afternoon or evening thunderstorms. These storms can be significant in the Darling Downs, sometimes bringing heavy rainfall and occasional hail. In contrast, winter weather is often dominated by high-pressure systems, resulting in dry conditions, light winds and sunny days followed by cold nights.

Weather Risks and Hazards

The geography of this part of Queensland makes it susceptible to specific weather risks. During transitional periods and summer, severe thunderstorms are the primary concern, often developing along the Great Dividing Range before moving across the plains. While the region is inland, it can still be affected by the remnants of tropical cyclones or ex-tropical lows, which can bring prolonged rainfall and flooding to local catchments. In the drier months, the combination of low humidity and cured vegetation increases the risk of bushfires, particularly when hot northerly winds precede a cold front.
