Teamas is situated in the dry tropics of North Queensland, positioned inland from the Coral Sea. This geographical placement results in a climate defined by distinct wet and dry seasons. During the summer months, the region is influenced by the monsoon trough, which can bring significant rainfall and high humidity. In contrast, the winter period is typically characterised by mild days, cool nights and very low rainfall as high-pressure systems dominate the interior of the continent.

Given the vegetation profile of the region, fire weather is a significant consideration during the late dry season. As grasses dry out following the summer growth, the combination of rising temperatures and strengthening winds increases the risk of bushfires. Conversely, during the height of the wet season, the focus shifts to monitoring water levels in local creeks and river systems. The vast distances between inland settlements mean that accurate weather monitoring is a vital tool for safety and logistics in this part of the state.
