This geographic location places it in a transitional climate zone. While it benefits from the moisture associated with the Queensland coastline, its inland position means it often experiences higher temperature variance than the coastal fringe. Summer months are typically characterised by high humidity and the potential for significant convective activity.

The local weather is heavily influenced by the movement of the subtropical ridge. During the warmer months, moist easterly winds often bring cloud cover and humidity, while the winter period is defined by drier, cooler air masses moving up from the south. The surrounding topography of ridges and valleys can influence local wind patterns and create microclimates, particularly regarding frost susceptibility in the lower paddocks during the clearer nights of July and August.

The region is prone to severe thunderstorms which can produce heavy rainfall, flash flooding in local creek catchments, and occasional hail. Unlike the far north of the state, direct tropical cyclone impacts are less frequent, though the remnants of ex-tropical cyclones can move south, resulting in prolonged rainfall events. During the drier spring months, the focus often shifts to bushfire monitoring as vegetation dries out ahead of the summer rains.
