Regional Climate Characteristics

Upper Barron is situated in the high-altitude landscape of the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. Due to its significant elevation compared to the coastal fringe of Cairns, the area experiences a sub-tropical highland climate. This results in temperatures that are generally cooler than the coast, with lower humidity levels providing a distinct seasonal contrast. Seasonal Weather Patterns

The wet season usually runs from December through to April, bringing the majority of the annual rainfall to the region. In contrast, the winter months are characterised by milder days and much cooler nights. These storms can develop rapidly over the ranges, bringing heavy downpours and occasional hail. During the drier spring months, the focus shifts toward fire weather. While the area is greener than many parts of inland Queensland, periods of low humidity and increased wind speeds can elevate the risk of bushfires in surrounding scrub and grazing land.
