During the summer months, the combination of high temperatures, low humidity, and occasional gusty winds creates a significant bushfire risk. While the region is south of the primary tropical cyclone strike zone, the remnants of decayed tropical systems can occasionally move through the Mid West, bringing unseasonal heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding. Thunderstorms are also a feature of the warmer months, sometimes producing dry lightning which poses a further risk of fire ignition in the surrounding scrub and farmland.
