How to read the South East Queensland rainfall map
The palest shading marks falls of a millimetre or two. Blues and greens through 10 to 30 mm usually mean a useful soaking for gardens and pasture. Yellow and orange from 30 to 100 mm point to heavy rain that can flood low-lying roads, while red, pink and purple above 100 mm indicate the sort of totals that bring flash flooding, especially in a short burst.
Totals are a broad regional guide rather than a suburb-by-suburb measurement. Thunderstorm rainfall is the hardest part to place and timing can run a few hours early or late, so check radar and current warnings close to the event.
